Carla Sánchez Cordero G.

Carla is a Mexican visual artist based in Belgium whose work explores the expressive potential of color through layered, translucent compositions that shift between presence and absence.

She trained in Graphic and Pictorial Research, specializing in painting at the École des Arts in Braine-l’Alleud. Her practice is informed by Color Field painting and Abstract Expressionism, while moving toward a more fluid and introspective visual language.

Within the field of lyrical abstraction, she creates immersive environments where color unfolds gradually, inviting a slower, contemplative mode of perception. In her paintings, hue, transparency, and spatial depth become tools for exploring introspection and emotional resonance.

Her work has been presented in group exhibitions across Belgium, most recently at Parce Initiative in Ghent.

Alongside her artistic practice, Carla is a trained lawyer and sociology teacher. She is also the founder of Ikal Art Projects, an initiative dedicated to amplifying the visibility of Latin American artists in Belgium (www.ikalartprojects.com, Instagram: @ikalartprojects).
